Lucky Luuk, or just Luuk for short, is an elegant and expressive 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding with a personality that keeps his rider smiling. He is ridden and loved by Anna Klee, who trains with Kristen Chance at NewChance Farm.

Luuk is a beautiful contradiction—cool and confident when it counts, yet quirky and clever in all the best ways. He doesn’t spook easily and stays calm in chaotic situations, but he’s also emotionally sensitive and just smart enough to keep you on your toes. One of Anna’s favorite things about Luuk is his signature move when he’s feeling fresh—he launches himself over jumps with the kind of elegance you don’t even notice until you watch it back on video. His front leg stretches out with perfect form, like he’s been choreographing his own round.

A memory that truly captures Luuk’s essence took place at the Vermont Summer Festival in August 2023. As Anna was preparing to show in the junior hunters, a sudden thunderstorm rolled in. Horses were spooking everywhere, and the walk back to the barn was chaotic. But Luuk calmly led the way, completely unfazed. “He walked back to the barn unbothered,” Anna recalls. “That’s just who he is—he takes such good care of me.”

Anna met Luuk through Topline Imports LLC and has now owned him for about two and a half years. It was fate that brought them together—Anna spotted him at the Vermont Summer Festival, and before she even sat in the saddle, her mom said, “I want that one.” It didn’t take long for Anna and her trainer to agree. Luuk was the perfect fit.

And when it comes to treats? Bananas are the way to his heart.

Anna was introduced to horses at the age of six by her mom, but it wasn’t until she moved to NewChance Farm over three years ago that she started competing regularly. Her favorite part of horse ownership? “The bond I get to build with them,” she says. “Learning their quirks, understanding their personalities—horses are amazing creatures, and it’s a pleasure to work with them every day.”
