Makana Tandhof, also known as Anna, is a bold, beautiful 7-year-old KWPN mare who brings a little sparkle and sass to every day. Ridden by Alyson Gurney and based in Maryland, Anna is equal parts puppy dog and princess—the kind of horse who wants to be in your pocket, yet knows she deserves the crown. And don’t forget the bananas —bananas are her absolute favorite treat.
Anna came into Alyson’s life during a season of transition—after some time away from bringing along a new horse, Alyson sat on Anna and immediately knew: this was her horse. That moment was confirmed when the pair won their very first 1.25m Jr/Am Classic together at their first show. It wasn’t just a ribbon—it was a sign that their partnership was meant to be.
Anna has a bold, confident presence in the ring and a magnetic personality on the ground. She’s fearless, forward, and full of life—the perfect yin to Alyson’s calm yang. Their chemistry is the kind you can’t fake, and it’s rooted in mutual trust and balance.
Their story began thanks to Alyson’s trainers, who found Anna and moved mountains to make the match happen. They first met in Ocala, and it’s been a dream team ever since.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica.
