Meet Center of Attention, affectionately known as Dubs—a striking 10-year-old German Sport Horse with just as much charm as talent. Ridden by Bill Rube, Dubs calls Cedar Ridge Farm home, where he trains with Phoebe DeMott.

Dubs is more than just a handsome face in the barn. “He recognizes me every time,” Bill says. “He’s also an accomplished escape artist.” One of Bill’s favorite memories with Dubs happened during the Winter circuit at the World Equestrian Center. “I had stopped by to give Dubs some treats, forgot to latch the stall door, and walked off to chat with friends. Next thing I know, someone says, ‘Isn’t that your horse?’ I turned around—and there he was.” Classic Dubs: clever, curious, and always close by.

Their bond runs deep. “Every moment I spend with this horse is a gift,” Bill shares. “He adores me as much as I adore him.”

The story of how Dubs came into Bill’s life is just as special. Bill first saw him on a video from Europe. “His previous owner had sadly passed away from COVID, and I just knew I had to have him.” When Dubs arrived in the U.S., their connection was instant. “We clicked right away. That was three years ago, and he’s been mine ever since.”

His favorite treat? Pumpkin spice Kelcie’s treats—fitting for a horse with as much personality as his name suggests.

Bill is 68 years old and has been riding since the age of five. “I’ve had horses on and off for the past 50 years, and my favorite part of it all is caring for my horse and competing.”

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica.
