GRACE | 12 YEAR OLD PERCHERON | WACO, TX.

Grace, G for short, is a 12 year old flea bitten gray Percheron that lives at Easy Does It Farms in Waco, Texas with her owner Kenzie.

Unfortunately, G was abused by past owners so she’s a bit hesitant at times, but you can tell she wants to love! Previous owners said that they used her to calf rope and joust on! She is a really neat horse and has a huge unique birthmark on her side! Kanzie shares, “I ride her! Mainly trails, but this summer I plan to get her going in roping and just all around playdays, just for fun! She has such a smooth lope, it’s like flying through the air! She takes a huge leap when you ask her to trot, it’s so fun! I found her on Facebook from a lady who rescued her! I went and saw her and instantly fell in love with her when I touched her. Love at first sight if you will! I got on her and said, ‘yes! I’ll take her!'”

Kenzie grew up around horses. Her uncle has been an equine vet for 40 years and she grew up at his farm her whole childhood. He would throw Kenzie and her cousins on a horse and say ‘ok now go ride and don’t bother me!’ She plans to go to vet school and follow in his footsteps. She currently teaches horse lessons for little kids and participates in endurance riding! She said if any word could explain G it’s ‘magnificent’ and that she loves oranges and apples.

Kenzie explains about Grace’s past, “G was abused before me. They stuck her in a stall and sprayed her with a water hose and stuck it down her backend for fun. So to say she’s a little un-trusting would be an understatement. I’ve been working with her for her to trust me and to know I would never hurt her. At times it’s frustrating, because I want her to be affectionate and to just love me, but that takes time and I keep reminding myself that. One of my friends went riding with me and I let her ride G on the trails! She was trying to saddle and brush her and G kept moving side to side and wouldn’t let her do much of anything to her. I thought, ‘hmmm that’s odd, she always stands for me.’ So I went and tried and she stood perfectly still and relaxed when I saddle her. At that moment I realized she really did trust me more than I had been thinking. She knew who I was and knew that I was not going to hurt her. So that gave me reassurance that I was making progress and just made me feel good in general! A breaking moment really!”Horse with a belt birthmark
