Henry, also known as Rollingwoods Knee Deep, is a 22-year-old Welsh Pony with a heart of gold and the personality of a champion. Henry is ridden by Barlow Kaplan at Balmoral Farms in Los Angeles, California.
Despite his age, Henry doesn’t act like a “dinosaur”—he still loves to shine in the show ring and collect blue ribbons. “He goes absolutely crazy when he sees me after we’ve been apart. It makes me feel so special,” Barlow shares. “Even though he’s older, I can always count on him to put in his best work and give it his all.”
One of Barlow’s favorite memories with Henry is earning a score of 92 in the show ring. “It was such an amazing moment. I love him so much, and he really gives everything he has every single time.”
Barlow first met Henry when he won Pony Finals with another rider from her barn. Her trainer instantly knew he’d be the perfect match and, although she’s had him for almost a year, Barlow only learned he was officially hers in September. “I’m so happy he’s mine. I love him so much.”
His favorite treat? Red Vines. And don’t forget—when you get on, he’ll turn around to look at you, and you have to tell him how cute he is.
Barlow’s passion for horses started before she was even born—her mom rode in the 3’6″ Amateur-Owner Hunters while she was pregnant. “One of my trainers told me I was going to be an amazing rider and accomplish great things—and I am.” From that first pony ride to scores in the 90s, Barlow is already building a legacy of her own in the show ring.
