Halston is a stunning 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding. Halston is co-owned by Rita Krejci and Samara Tuchband. Rita rides at Perfecta Farm and trains with Kim Gardiner.
Full of quirks and charm, Halston keeps everyone on their toes. “When he eats, he grabs a big mouthful of grain, throws half of it into his water bucket, and then dunks his head in to retrieve it,” Rita shares. “He’s also terrified of having ribbons attached to his bridle and refuses to be mounted from a block—but we love him for all of it.”

One of Rita’s favorite memories with Halston took place at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show. “He was trailered 11 hours to Harrisburg without us, and when we arrived two days later, he absolutely lit up when he saw us. That connection, that recognition—it was everything,” she recalls. “It was our first national horse show and he showed up with so much heart. He even brought home a prize!”
Halston joined the Perfecta Farm family after Kim Gardiner discovered him on a video from the Netherlands as a 4-year-old. “My friend and I were actually on a girls’ trip in Mexico when we decided to buy him. He arrived a few weeks later in Chicago and was even more beautiful in person. It felt like he was the perfect combination of our two previous show horses,” says Rita.
His favorite treat? Bananas—his new love language.
Rita’s lifelong love for horses began at 14 when she worked off her first riding lessons. She cared for a 4-year-old off-the-track Thoroughbred for 25 years, learning invaluable life lessons along the way: loyalty, commitment, resilience, and love. At 32, she bought her first show horse, and she’s been in the ring ever since. Three years ago, she added “horse show mom” to her resume when she bought her daughters a pony—sharing her passion with them has been one of her greatest joys.
