Chawn is a 9-year-old Holsteiner gelding with the personality of a big, affectionate puppy. Ridden by Mindy Lynch, he trains with Megghan Watts at Heritage Acres, where he’s known for being the horse who’s always looking for a kiss—or at least a snack!
With his puppy dog personality, Chawn is constantly trying to make friends. “He attempts to nose bump anyone and everyone that passes him, in or out of his stall,” says Mindy. “He’s always in your pocket, and he absolutely loves kisses.” Whether it’s a quiet moment in the barn or a busy show environment, Chawn wants to be the center of attention—and with his sweet, loving nature, it’s hard to resist giving it to him.
Mindy met Chawn through her trainer and longtime friend, Megghan Watts, who has a special talent for matching horses with riders. The moment Mindy sat on Chawn, she knew he was the one. Convincing her husband, however, took a little more time—so she leased Chawn for a year before officially making him hers. Three years later, it’s safe to say it was the perfect match.
There are too many favorite memories to count, but Mindy treasures every little moment that makes Chawn unique—from his constant need for affection to the strong bond they’ve built over time. “The best thing about owning Chawn is the bond we’ve created and learning all of his little quirks—good and bad,” she shares.
Favorite treat? Chawn LOVES watermelon, but he’s not picky—he’ll try anything you offer him!
Mindy started riding at age 12, trading stall cleaning for lessons. But as a twin, sometimes those lessons went to her sister when trainers couldn’t tell them apart! At 15, she moved to a private barn and began showing locally. At 17, she started training with Megghan and has been with her ever since. With a deep passion for competing and a heart full of gratitude for the horses who’ve carried her dreams, Mindy credits Chawn as one of the most special partners she’s ever had.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica.
