Broadway, also known as Boardy, is a 19-year-old Oldenburg gelding who still acts like a youngster with a full tank of energy. Ridden by Layla Taylor, he trains under Kyle Muckler in Ocala, Florida, and proves daily that age is just a number.

For an “old man,” Boardy has endless energy—he’s the horse that never tires, always up for a ride, and always ready to keep going. “He never gets tired,” Layla shares. And he’s got a playful spirit to match. One unforgettable moment came after a lesson when Layla and a few friends went out on a trail ride. On the way back to the barn, Broadway found a giant tree branch, picked it up, and carried it home like a dog with a stick—as if to say, “Look what I found!”
Layla first met Broadway at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show two years ago. She had tried four other horses that day, but the moment she sat on Boardy, she knew. “He was the perfect horse for me,” she says. That first ride marked the beginning of a partnership that would bring both joy and growth over the next two years.

Now, their time together is coming to a bittersweet close. After PNHS 2024, their lease and partnership will end, closing out a meaningful chapter filled with unforgettable rides, a few gummy bears, and a whole lot of heart.
Favorite treats? Boardy is a foodie with eclectic tastes—gummy bears, bananas, and Cheerios are his snacks of choice.

Layla had her first riding lesson at just 3 years old, and she’s been horse-obsessed ever since. “I love everything about horses,” she says. “Especially how they can feel everything I feel.” Her bond with Broadway is a testament to that connection—a reminder of just how much a horse can teach you in a short amount of time.
