Archie, also known as Watermark, is a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood with a heart as big as his personality. Ridden by Kiley Prime, Archie trains at NewChance Farm with Kristen Chance, and was originally bred by Gerdia Dolfsma, who serendipitously connected with the family through Facebook!

Since the day Archie arrived, he’s been a giant puppy dog in horse form. Extremely food motivated and endlessly friendly, Archie is the kind of horse who always greets you with perked ears and a cheerful attitude. Whether it’s a treat, a scratch, or just some attention, he’s always happy to see you.

Archie entered Kiley’s life at a time of deep personal loss. After saying goodbye to her previous horse, and then losing her beloved grandmother—who had attended every horse show with her for three decades—Kiley wasn’t sure what the future would hold. But then came Archie. His positive energy and endearing personality provided a much-needed source of joy.

“Losing them made me realize just how much positivity this horse brings into my life,” Kiley shares. “He truly is one in a million.”

Originally imported by Laura Hagen from New York, Archie was a dappled dark grey six-year-old when Kiley first tried him. He was calm, easy-going, and quickly stole their hearts. Since then, he’s become more than just a show horse; he’s a daily companion. Living just 15 minutes from the barn means Kiley gets to spend time with him nearly every day, deepening their bond.

Favorite treat? Archie will eat anything. “He took a whole banana—peel and all—right out of my hand the other day!”

Riding is in Kiley’s blood. Both her mother and grandmother were lifelong equestrians. She started riding around age three, and some of her favorite memories come not from the show ring, but from time spent in the barn grooming and tacking up. “That’s where you really get to know a horse’s personality,” she says. And with Archie, there’s a lot to love.
