I love a good equestrian look just as much as anyone else, however there are so many different ways to pull off an “equestrian” look for portraits that I figured it was a great time to break down all of the options in a post.

There are 4 different categories of “equestrian” looks.

Equestrian Inspired Street Clothes, this is what most non-equestrians think of when they think of Equestrian Style. Think skinny jeans with knee high fashion “riding” boots, paired with a blouse and a vest or blazer.

Lauren went for this look for the first half of her portrait session, skinny jeans paired with knee high brown boots and a blouse. This is a great route to go especially for fall portraits, I think it has an exceptional “fall” feel.

Amanda put together this look that was outside of the box of what most people call an equestrian look, it was her take on a street style “equestrian” look. She calls herself the Cowgirl Equestrian, she paired denim with her tall boots, and went for a ruffled blouse and show jacket. She also threw on her cowboy had for a little something different.

Equestrian with a High Fashion Twist, this is my favorite. Take a pair of breeches, maybe even in a fun color, add a cute blouse or even a blazer, your favorite tall boots, and don’t forget fun jewelry.

I am obsessed with this look Dana put together for her session, she paired these amazing Dover Olive Breeches with a Military Style Blazer that she found on Amazon, and added a simple silk blouse and chunky necklace to complete the look.

This session is the session that made me fall in love with Olive breeches in portraits. I also love the little details on this blouse from the ruffled collar to black trim. This is the perfect example of a great blouse for photos, it fits just right, and has a little flowy feel to it, without looking “oversized” in photos.

This is one of the looks we put together for the Faces of Pin Oak 75th Anniversary Shoot at Great Southwest Equestrian Center. It is the perfect example of a simple look with some pops of color. We went with white breeches and a shirt, added a cheetah print blazer from LuxeEq, Light Blue Belt, and a Hermes Scarf…oh and I can’t forget the beautiful sparkly broadband to match from MagicTack. You can dress up your traditional equestrian look with fun accessories and take it to a whole new level.

Here is another one of Amanda, the Cowgirl Equestrian, she paired her olive breeches with this gorgeous Chanel Sweater that had these amazing sleeves that belled out and looked beautiful in the photos, oh and of course she had to throw on her cowboy boots to get that “cowgirl” flair.

I love this jacket to add a little fun mix to a traditional equestrian look, this jacket was another Amazon find!

The Clayton sisters went with a super subtle twist on an equestrian look, they choose coordinating white blouses that gave their “equestrian” look a little something special. Adding a simple blouse to breeches is the perfect way to spice up an equestrian look.

This look featuring Keely & Sully is another look we created for the Faces of Pin Oak, this is what I cal my Ralph Lauren inspired look. We created this look around these red breeches, and paired them with a button down shirt, blazer, and a scarf to tie it all together.

Traditional Show Clothes, this is the look that comes to mind for most people when they think of doing portraits with their horse, they immediately go to their show clothes. Breeches, white shirt, and jacket and sometimes even adding gloves to complete the look.

MK looks adorable in her show clothes with her pony Cappucino. MK wore her traditional dressage show clothes as her second look for her Horse & Rider Portrait Session at Rocking M Stables in Dallas, TX. There is something so incredibly timeless about going with the traditional equestrian look. Everyone has a different show day look, so don’t be afraid to show off your unique show day look in your portraits.

Samantha chose to wear her show clothes for her portraits with Atomic at Great Southwest Equestrian Center. She went for her classic tan breeches and black jacket.

I always LOVE a fun colored jacket in the show ring, and this Blue Jacket is part of Nicole’s signature look in the show ring so I knew we had to include it in her portraits.

Casual Equestrian, think about what you would wear if you were going to ride in a clinic, you put on the cutest breeches you own, long sleeve shirt that matches, paired with the perfect puffy vest.

One of my favorite Casual Equestrian Looks is the all white look, Brooke pulled off the all white look like a pro. It is so beautiful, yet simple.

If you aren’t a White Breeches person, because let’s be honest it takes a special type of patience to wear all white around horses, don’t be afraid to go with tan breeches and a simple white show shirt.

I always love a good vest with a casual equestrian look, it is a great way to add some shape and structure to a blouse or show shirt.

Pairing breeches with your favorite sweater is a great way to put together a casual equestrian look.

Ava went for the Casual Equestrian Look for her portraits, but she chose a navy show shirt with lace details for a little flair.

Don’t be afraid of going for a colorful sun shirt for your portraits, if you want a more laid back look for your portraits. Brooke & Nicole did a casual look wearing long sleeve sun shirts for some of their sister portraits.
