This look was one of my absolute favorites in the snow! Chelsea and George were so incredibly brave going out in the below freezing temperatures with wind chill in the teens for these pictures. Chelsea just so happened to have the most adorable dress that she purchased for New Years, and it made for the perfect dress for her snow day pictures as well.

Snow day pictures can be extra challenging because of the extreme cold but here are a few tips to keep everyone involved as warm as can be.

Stay bundled up as much as possible. We kept the blanket on George as long as possible, and didn’t take Chelsea’s jacket off until we were ready to start shooting.

Use hand warmers. Hand warmers are great for keeping your hands warm, however they also work great tucked into clothes to help keep you warm in the freezing temperatures. Don’t forget they take a while to warm up, so make sure you open them up about 30 minutes before you head outside.

Layer. Layers under clothes are essential, Chelsea added some thick fleece lined leggings with her dress to help keep her legs toasty while we were outside. Layers that are easy to put on and off of your horse are also vital, so that you can easily get something back on them to warm them up. Fleece coolers work great, and are less cumbersome than hauling their heavy blankets out in the snow.

Take Breaks. We took breaks periodically to give Chelsea her jacket back to warm up, and made sure to not stay outside for too long. It is super important that we can work fast in the cold, so we can get our clients and their horses back inside as quickly as possible.
