Meet Maverick, the adorable Chihuahua Jack Russell mix known for her distinctive white and brown markings and her exceptionally expressive ears. Maverick, or Mavee as she is affectionately called, lives at home with her owner, Mary Shumway.
One of Maverick’s most endearing features is her ears. “Maverick has the biggest ears. She always looks like she is ready for flight. Her ears show her expressions,” Mary shares. Whether she’s excited, curious, or relaxed, Maverick’s ears always tell the story.
Maverick is a rescue dog, and her journey to Mary is a heartwarming tale of finding a forever home. At approximately 5 or 6 years old, Maverick has brought joy and companionship to Mary’s life.
Maverick’s favorite treat is animal crackers, which she eagerly enjoys. Her playful and loving nature makes her a cherished member of the family.
Maverick’s expressive ears are not only adorable but also serve as a window into her emotions, making her interactions even more delightful. Mary’s bond with Maverick is incredibly special, and their journey together continues to be filled with joy and memorable moments.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. With the help of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show family, Karinda has raised over $30,000 for Candlelighter’s Houston since starting this project.
