ESCANABA | 19 YEAR-OLD THOROUGHBRED GELDING | ROUND ROCK, TX
Escanaba, affectionately known as Gus, is a 19-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. Standing out with his bay coat, two white socks, a star, and a small snip, Gus trains at Hilltop Farm. Gus was bred at Win Row Farm and was originally named Flights Rib, out of Flight to Remember by Aladdin Rib. His unique name, Escanaba, comes from his time spent in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Gus is well-known for his endearing smile and friendly personality. He’s not just a pretty face; he’s a horse with character. Gus loves to perform and has a special fondness for apples, making him quite the treat-motivated companion. Lacey cherishes the bond they share, and it’s clear that Gus’s charm extends beyond the show ring.
Lacey first met Gus when she received him as a 16th birthday present. Since then, they’ve formed an unbreakable bond. “One of my favorite memories with Gus was showing in Kentucky and winning champion in my last division as a junior,” Lacey recalls. This moment marked a significant milestone in their journey together, highlighting the growth and success they’ve achieved as a team.
Gus has an impressive show record. In 2016, he won the USHJA Stirrup Cup and was named Horse of the Year. He consistently placed at the top of his class in the 3’3 jumpers, showcasing his talent and dedication.
Lacey, now 23 years old, has been riding for 17 years. She got her first pony at the age of 8 and has been inseparable from horses ever since. Her journey with Gus over the past eight years has been particularly special. “My favorite part of owning Gus has been getting to know him so well,” Lacey shares. The connection they’ve built over the years is a testament to the deep bond that can form between a horse and rider.
Overall, Gus’s journey with Lacey is a heartwarming story of dedication, trust, and mutual love. Their shared experiences, from everyday moments to championship wins, illustrate the profound relationship that defines their partnership.
