Dalco, a stunning 12-year-old Zangersheide gelding imported from Holland, is the kind of horse who captures hearts the moment you meet him. Also known as Dalco, he’s partnered with rider Lea Traola at Country Farms under the guidance of trainer Matt Sheridan.
A gentle giant with a big personality, Dalco loves attention and affection. He’ll happily follow Lea around his paddock like an oversized puppy, always eager for scratches and company. He’s incredibly social—he’ll whinny at any horse within earshot, just to say hello. But despite his bold personality, he draws the line at one thing: puddles. No thanks!
This year marked a new chapter for Dalco as he stepped into the world of equitation. In their first season together, he and Lea accomplished an incredible feat—qualifying for both the Medal and Maclay Finals and going on to compete in both prestigious events. For a horse new to the discipline, Dalco has taken to the ring with elegance, heart, and an eagerness to please.
Lea and her family found Dalco through Mike Holtkamp in Ocala, Florida, in August of last year. Since then, they’ve shared over a year of growth, fun, and unforgettable memories.
His favorite treat? Dalco isn’t picky—but if it’s orange, he’s all in. He has a special love for peanut butter and even enjoys the occasional smoothie.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica.
