Meet Chico P, also known as “Chico” or “Chickies” to his loving mom and rider, Ava. Chico is a 13-year-old Mecklenburg who was imported from Germany. His sire is Chaccomo who is a descendant of Chacco Blue and his dam is Uma Pchico. He is a beautiful bay gelding standing at 16.1hh. He has a unique white face marking and one hind sock. Chico lives in Fort Worth, TX at October Hill Farm where the pair trains with Christian Heineking.

“I had previously bought a horse from Christian and he wanted me to try Chico. I had zero interest in trying Chico because this meant I had to sell my other horse which I loved! After some thinking I finally did and the second I sat on him I instantly fell in love with him. I have had him for almost 4 years now and he has taken me places I would’ve never dreamed of.”, shared Ava.

“My favorite memory of my Chico took place in Monterrey, Mexico. I was supposed to compete in the 2* events there during the Major League Show Jumping events but unfortunately, all the FEI classes were fully booked leaving me to have to compete in the National classes. On Friday, Christian had told me that I was going to compete in a 4bar competition with Chico and my other horse Dreamgirl. When the time had come to compete I was nervous but I was also excited to test new boundaries. We went round by round until it was down to me, Chico, and one other pair of horse and rider. They were the first to go and attempt to jump a 1.80m and unfortunately he was unable to jump and clear this huge jump. This now meant it was my turn, I almost felt that my heart was beating out of my chest. I pick up my canter and the stadium becomes dead silent. The next thing I knew I was on the other side of this whopping 5ft 10in jump. Everyone started cheering and screaming. I felt as if I was on cloud 9. This is probably one of my favorite memories of me and my chickies.”, shared Ava.

Chico is a very quirky horse. He is almost passive-aggressive towards anything…until food is involved, then he loves you. Chico absolutely loves paddock cakes.

“I got into horses because of my grandmother who raised miniature horses – I always shared a special bond with horses. I started riding competitively when I was 8 and got my first pony at the age of 7. My favorite thing about owning horses is their loving and charismatic personalities.”, says Ava.
