Just What the Doctor Ordered, “Dan Dee”, is an Appaloosa Gelding. He lives at Scheffelridge Farm in Paris, KY, where the pair train with Nori Scheffel.

I absolutely loved getting to spend the evening with these two. There is something so special about their relationship, and especially how much Dan Dee loves and trusts Ashley. Every single time Ashley cuddles with Dan Dee he just closes his one good eye, it is almost like he is saying “I trust you mom, I know you will protect me.” It is truly such a magical thing.

Was it love at first sight for Ashley? ABSOLUTELY! Ashley started riding again after 30 years. Her trainer, Nori put her on Dan Dee. Ashley states, “Nori said she wasn’t sure why she picked him for me, never having met me, but she sees her barn as a venue for horses to find their humans and vice versa. That day my spirit animal found me through her.” Meeting and falling in love with Dan Dee is one of Ashley’s favorite memories to this day.

The pair take lessons, show, and trail ride. Sometimes they enjoy a simple day hanging out for a nice spa day and grazing. Ashley describes Dan Dee as an old soul. Honest. True. Loved by all at the barn. Two years ago year, Dan Dee had cancer and had to have one of his eyes removed. Sometimes people are taken back this, then they approach him and are immediately drawn in by him. He absolutely loves being spoiled. “I think he enjoys our time together as much as I do!”
