Samson, Samson Briggs, was an eleven year old beautiful Palomino Belgian Draft gelding. He was a rescue from a kill pen in Oklahoma.

Samson was so incredibly special, during his session I absolutely fell in love with him, his giant heart, and those big droopy eyes . Unfortunately this once in a lifetime boy passed away just a short time ago. This is the first horse that has been a part of 365 Days of Horses that has passed away and when I saw I was absolutely heartbroken, especially knowing this his blog wasn’t scheduled to be up for another month.
He was actually rescued by someone else first, but then they decided that he was too much horse for them, so a good friend of his owner, Deana, took him. When Deana met Samson it was love at first sight, and they never looked back! Dean adored this horse so much, but she believed he actually loved her husband more!
He lived at Baker Funny Farm in Richmond, Texas with many other animals that Deana has rescued. Deana said, “I am a crazy animal lady that rescues as many as possible! It doesn’t matter if it is a horse, dog, cat, rat, skunk or opossum, they are all safe with me! Dogs and horses are gifts from God to bring us joy, happiness, and love!”
Deana shared that the first time they rode him, they had to google the words that driving horses know so they could tell him where to go! “He doesn’t know how to go with a rider but he did listen to the driving cues.” It had to be a fun day learning about him and driving! She loved his willingness to learn although was is very fearful because he had severely abused before he was rescued.
This “magnificent” boy loved apples.
It is so hard to say goodbye to our best 4 legged friends but I know that this gentle giant is running free now and is free of all of the pain and abuse from his early life. It breaks my heart that Deana and everyone at Baker Funny Farm had to say goodbye to Samson way too soon.
