Austin Equine Photographer | Newt the Halflinger
Newt, Northwind MHF, is a Registered Halflinger Gelding. His sire is Neumeister, his dam is Synthia both are from Tudor Oaks Farm in Illinois. His paternal Grandfather is the Gold Classified Nordtirol out of Austria, who is the current world record holder for Halflingers in jumping with a jump of over five feet at the world show. His original owner is the president of the Keystone Halflinger Association in Landcaster County, PA.

Newt is a very special guy with striking markings. He has a white mane and tail, and a star, strip, and snip. Newt is currently ridden by Barkley, she does dressage with him. He is fun to ride because he is so responsive. All his rider needs to do is to think about turning and Newt just goes there. He is also very forward and is a super fancy mover.
Laura, Barkley’s Mom, bought Newt three years ago from a woman who specifically searches out Halflingers and trains before matching them up with new owners. Due to his handsome good looks, Newt was such a cutie that he made a good first impression. He had a gorgeous rich, thick coat and gorgeous white feathers on his feet. When they showed friends pictures of Barkley riding Newt they would say “Is that one of those Budweiser horses?” Only much smaller of course!
When I asked them to describe this handsome fella in one word they said “personable.” I can attest to this after photographing him as a part of 365 Days of Horses. Newt’s favorite treats are sugar cubes.
Newt is not only awesome because of his good looks, he is also extremely talented in the dressage ring too. He has scored over 70% in every dressage show he has entered.
Laura and her daughter Barkley both love to ride. Laura loved horses as a young girl and rode at summer camp and when visiting her cousins. After college, Laura countered at a Handicapped Equestrian Program which exposed her to English riding for the first time. After that she started taking lessons and has been hooked ever since. Newt was their first horse to own, along with another Halflinger named Gus. They have had them both for 3 years at their ranch in Blanco,TX.
Laura shared that to keep Newt looking on top of his game, that Eqyss detangler is the best. Oh, and it smells good!
One of Laura’s favorite memories with Newt is watching her daughter and friend ride off into the late afternoon light towards the river. Talk about a gorgeous sight with two stunning Halflingers.
