Landa, also known as Landa C, is a striking 8-year-old KWPN mare. Landa is ridden by Casey Zuraitis, who trains with Seery Hill and Redfield Farm.
From the beginning, Landa has had a gentle but discerning spirit. When she first arrived, she was uncertain around people—especially near her head. With patience and trust, she’s blossomed into a sweet and affectionate mare. While she’s still particular, she can’t resist a good under-the-chin scratch and has become wonderfully loving in her own unique way.

One of the most incredible parts of Landa’s journey was her second horse show ever—Capital Challenge. Yes, you read that right. This iconic show would intimidate even the most seasoned horses, but Landa rose to the occasion. New to the hunter ring, she thoughtfully navigated each round, processing everything with poise. Watching her grow and perform at such a high level so early on was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Landa has a deep love for her turnout time. At shows where turnout is limited, she will gladly settle for a hand-graze—but with a twist. If given the chance, she’ll quietly ask for more freedom. Once, while alone, she was let off the lead. She calmly walked a few feet away, rolled luxuriously in the grass, and then strolled back to reattach herself. It was a perfect picture of her gentle independence.
Casey has owned Landa for three years now, but their partnership began with a twist of fate. While preparing for HITS Saugerties, Casey’s other horses were on lay-up, and she found herself without a ride. A call to Emil at Redfield Farm led to a short-term lease on Landa, who had just been imported. Originally a jumper, Emil suspected she had potential as a hunter. Over the course of just one week, that potential blossomed. Landa transformed from unsure over 2’ fences to relaxed and focused. There was no way she was going back—she’d found her person.
When it comes to treats, Landa has her preferences. She’s not one to indulge in anything too sugary. “She’s watching her supermodel figure,” Casey jokes, noting that Landa only goes for the healthy snacks.
Their partnership is full of thoughtful growth, mutual respect, and love—a testament to what can happen when the right horse finds the right person.
